Ahoy there! As of late I have heard that morale is down in the U.S. Military. Well it also seems to be that way in the University, as well as within countless other institutions which have been cut off from the first principles and the fundamental forms. The scholar and the soldier have much in common-- both exist to defend the fundamental freedoms. While the noble soldier is often occupied with defending the tangible boundaries of private property, the righteous scholar finds themselves in charge of defending the more abstract boundaries of man's most fundamental private property, the Truth. However, with the deconstruction of God and the Great Books, this vital purpose is no longer so clear within the academy, and without divine purpose rooted in the Truth, enitities such as honor, discipline, dedication, respect, tradition, and morality begin to wane. Let the rudderless contemporary university and postmodern literature and art present empiricle evidence, where the first thing that is taught is that there is nothing to be known, and that words hold no intrinsic meaning.

In so far as the United States Military was established in order to defend our freedoms, so too it must be that the Armed Forces were founded to defend the source of our freedoms, the Great Books of the Western Heritage. We're proud to be united in this task, and we here dedicate the Great Books Military Outpost to the brave men and women in the U.S. armed forces. It small gesture, compared to the efforts of those who place their life on the line for our freedoms.

The starbuckclassicalpoetry.com scholars support and share the principles which govern the United States military. We respect the discipline, courage and dedication of those who would risk their lives for their country, and it serves as a daily inspiration in our quest to re-instill the modern University with a repsect for those who gave their lives for the ideals by which our country came to exist and prosper. We are great fans of physical and mental health, and we believe that the two are inseperable. Socrates and Jesus are the two fathers of the Western Heritage, bestowing upon us philosophy and religion, the love of the Rational and the love of God. Both gave their lives for what they believed, both questioned their fellow men and the authorities of the day, but throughout it all, both remained loyal to that ultimate authority, God.

As we said before, we believe that the Truth is the most fundamental form of private property, and as the pen is mightier than the sword when it comes to defending it, so too is it that the first and second amendment are but one and the same. The freedom of speech is the right to bear the most formidable arms, and we're proud to wield it dextrously, and we hope that we might be able to utilize it as well as the U.S. military.
